This summer I am serving as a staff member on a summer project in Santa Monica and while on project I have gained perspective in relation to the great commission...a couple of verses have shaped my thinking:
"Don't just pretend that you love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Stand on the side of the good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other." -- Romans 12:9,10
"...Therefore, be imitators of God...And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us..."-- Ephesians 5:1-2
"Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law? And He said to them, 'You shall Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all you soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"-- Matthew 22:36-39
I know that I want to bring glory to the Lord by loving people well...i think sometimes we get in the mindset of "converting people" but that is not what i want my life to be marked by...i want to have a genuine love for people and to share in the amazing relationship with the Creator...
